Pomegranate is one of the most characteristic symbols of Herzegovina. Wild pomegranate can be found almost everywhere from countryside to city centres. It is also a favourite subject for many local painters who dedicate to it a third of their paintings.

Pomegranate is used in a variety of ways notably as pomegranate juice. Pomegranate seeds are large and juicy, bright red colour and sour taste. One pomegranate delivers 40% of an adult’s daily vitamin C requirement. In addition to being very useful in culinary or medicine pomegranate is also grown as a decorative plant. Pomegranates are ripe in late September or in the first half of October.
